The Regent Redcar - Coming Soon!

The Regent Redcar
Coming soon!

Merlin Cinemas are delighted to announce that we will soon be operating in North Yorkshire at The Regent Redcar cinema, following the successful redevelopment by Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council.

Beautifully created, The Regent is home to three fully air-conditioned, state-of-the-art screens, each with wheelchair access. The venue also boasts a cafe and bar with a terraced area overlooking the beach, offering breath-taking, panoramic views of the coastline.

The town of Redcar can feel assured that Merlin Cinemas have decades of experience operating in similar locations and our aim has always been to bring the big screen experience to local communities. To that end we offer some of the best value cinema ticket prices in the UK, with a very popular discount card also available; The Movie Magic Card. Find out more here.

Merlin Cinemas started in 1990 at the then single-screen cinema, the Savoy Penzance in Cornwall;  now a four-screen venue with bar and restaurant. We also operate cinemas at other rural and coastal towns across the UK, as far north as the tip of Scotland, almost literally from “Land’s End to John O’Groats”.

This will be the seventeenth cinema in the Merlin Cinemas’ Group, and we aim to provide a lineup that caters for everyone; with blockbuster films, event cinema, family screenings, autism-friendly screenings and more. We can't wait to get started and with lots of amazing movies coming exclusively soon to cinemas such as Roald Dahl's Matilda The Musical, Avatar 2, Puss In Boots 2, Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantomania, there is a lot to look forward to.

Before an opening date can be announced, final preparations need to take place, such as recruiting and training a new team, including a manager. see details here.

Geoff Greaves, Director of Merlin Cinemas: “Seeing a film at the cinema with family or friends is a very different experience to watching the film at home. With the latest digital projection and sound, it is more memorable and offers a sense of occasion. With facilities for children’s parties, private hires, school screenings and presentations, I believe the cinema will be a valuable social amenity and help to invigorate Redcar town centre as well as providing local employment. Cinema-going in the UK has experienced a huge renaissance over recent years with over 180 million visits to the cinema in the year before the pandemic, the signs are that now post-pandemic people are again coming back to see films on the big screen at the cinema. We believe that Redcar deserves a good cinema. and are delighted to have reached an agreement with the council to operate The Regent. We look froward to welcoming local people to the cinema just as soon as the formalities have all been completed.”
